I have had this book sitting on my desk since December, and so now that I am working from home I was able to bring the big stack of books to review with me and am hoping to work my way through them!
I have recommended quite a few different devotions for kids, and so I don’t want to add to the confusion of picking which one to go for – but all devotion books are different! This one, geared at teens, could be a great resource for your mature preteens.
First of all, there’s no place to write in the book, so the onus is on the reader to journal or respond separately. That does make it a pretty handy sized book crammed full of 200 devotions.
The sample above shows what the standard layout looks like. There’s a Scripture (CSB) and then a short devotional. Following on from that is a call to action, the “to go…” Kids are tasked with finding one or more other scriptures and pondering on them, with a further challenge as they strive to live faithfully. It is simple, but provides a great basis for preteens to take it where they want to.
Finding time amongst the many demands of life can be difficult, but this book was designed with that in mind. Here’s what the blurb says:
This book covers various areas of Christian living:
- God’s love for us
- How we love God
As you can see, a solid range of topics for your preteen to dive into and ponder on through reading, thinking about and praying over Scripture.
For the price, I can see this being a really cool tool for families. I would even suggest a parent doing it alongside their child, and talking over what you both have been learning. How wonderful those conversations would be!
For the $5 price it currently sits at on LifeWay’s site, I don’t think you can go wrong. Use the sample pages to try it out today!
